Regimental Sergeant-Major and Armourer Staff Sergeant, Hong Kong Defence Force.

The salary scales approved by the Salaries Commission for the posts of Regimental Sergeant- Major and Armourer Staff Sergeant in the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps (now the Hong Kong Defence Force) were respectively $6000 month and g500 $800 a month.

Sergeant, held by Mr. W. D. White, is on the pensionable establishment.

Mr. White reached the

maximum of his scale on 11th June, 1948, and Mr. Jones will reach the maximum of his scale on the 29th December, 1949.

3. Since the time of their first appointments there have been considerable increases in the responsibilities of both posts.

These

responsibilities will grow with the present expanison of the Hong Kong Defence Force which now embraces unites of the three fighting services and it is considered that an extension of the salary scales attached to these posts is now justified.
